TOBACCO COALITION:
In collaboration with community groups, and individuals, the Tobacco Section of the Coalition spearheads tobacco prevention, education, and cessation projects in the schools and the community at large. All programs support the statewide goal of reducing tobacco use, by youth and adults by 50% before 2010.
Programs are developed to address four component areas:
Community: offering grants, training, outreach and public awareness.
School System: developing age appropriate education activities spanning pre-k through college
Enforcement: designing activities for vendor education and recognition and working with Law Enforcement on vendor compliance.
Cessation: offering stop smoking classes and support groups, nicotine replacement therapy, and follow up programs for continued success.
